Rani was a team partner for the project that won the Gold Medal in the energy category at the 2018 ACEC Texas Engineering Excellence Awards. The Central Heating & Power Plant renovation at the University of Minnesota is up and running and making a huge impact. Rani was responsible for site design of the project, including new driveways and parking areas, stormwater management, utilities, and grading.
Congrats to the team!

Rani Engineering President, Susan Park Rani, has completed her tenure with the Rochester Destination Medical Clinic. For more than 4 years, Susan has been a board member who helped direct Rochester’s path as a global leader in medical care and research. Susan was appointed by Governor Dayton in 2013 to serve on the distinguished Mayo Clinic Destination Medical Center’s eight-member board of directors that helped drive the largest economic development in Minnesota history. We thank Susan for her service and dedication to America’s City for Health!
Congratulations to Kaylyn Haley of Rani, a 2017 recipient of an Emerging Professionals scholarship from ACEC/MN. She recently attended the 2017 ACEC Annual Convention in Washington D.C., where she was able to attend many educational sessions and network. “The scholarship, along with Rani, gave me a great opportunity to experience the engineering industry outside the office setting and to network with professionals from around the world. I want to encourage other young professionals to apply for the scholarship in the future because it is a great learning opportunity,” said Kaylyn. This distinction is reserved for staff who are on-track to take on leadership roles. Rani encourages professional development and growth opportunities in the early stages of engineering careers. This is the third year in a row that a staff member from Rani has won the award.
Rani Engineering and President Susan Park Rani were honored in the U.S. House of Representatives by Rep. Keith Ellison (D-MN) on May 29th, 2014. Mr. Ellison congratulated Ms. Rani on being named one of eleven “Champions of Change” by the White House for ensuring that transportation facilities, services, and jobs help connect individuals and their communities to greater opportunities. He also stated that Ms. Rani is an inspiration for women, minorities, immigrants and anyone who aspires to start their own business, and he commended Ms. Rani on her award and her thoughtful contributions as both an entrepreneur and as an excellent member of the community. Rani Engineering is celebrating 20 years of business in the Twin Cities.
Founded by Susan Park Rani in1993 with two employees working on water resources projects, the Minnesota-based company has a staff of over 40. Rani Engineering has since added land surveying and rail signal engineering services to complement its civil engineering group.
When accepting the ACEC/MN award as firm of the year in May, Rani said she knew there had been skeptics about a company that was owned by a woman who was also a minority. “That was then, and this is now,” she told the crowd.
Over the years, the company has been involved in a number of high-profile projects, including the expansion of the Weisman Art Museum on the University of Minnesota campus, development and construction of the Hiawatha and Central Corridor light rail projects, reconstruction of the I-35W bridge, and the Maryland Avenue bridge reconstruction across Interstate 35E. In December of 2012, Rani Engineering established an office in Dickinson, North Dakota.
Rani was selected by Gov. Mark Dayton for two international trade missions: to China in 2012 and to Europe in 2013. She has been a speaker at a number of national events, and in November 2012, she was chosen by the National Association of Women Business Owners-Minnesota (NAWBO-MN) to receive its 2012 Woman Pioneer Award.
The company has received numerous awards since its founding, including:
