The proposed Norther Light Express (NLX) will offer daily intercity passenger train service at speeds up to 110 mph along a 155-mile corridor between Target Field station in Minneapolis and the Duluth Depot station in Duluth.

MnDOT commissioned a preliminary design for 3 segments along the proposed track. New alignments and profiles where designed based on existing track to accommodate the high-speed train. The proposed design included drainage, grading and signal layout.

Rani developed a preliminary plan for the freight and high-speed train tracks, stations and turnouts. Designed to meet American Railway Engineering and Maintenance-of-Way Association (AREMA) and MnDOT standards.
